Alison has been a cancer specialist for over 30 years, working across the UK and West Africa. Her experience in global health ignited her commitment to reducing the global cancer burden through strengthening the healthcare workforce. Over the past decade, she has partnered with health leaders across East and Central Africa to co design the Foundations in Oncology module—an innovative programme that equips healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of cancer across the care continuum while inspiring behavioural change within their communities. The module has been successfully implemented in Kenya, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and is now being explored in Zambia. Rooted in the voices and lived experiences of local communities, it is culturally responsive and tailored to resource availability, social perceptions of cancer, and local health determinants. Guided by real world clinical conversations, the module empowers participants to shape meaningful, sustainable improvements in cancer care.
